Police disarm suspects in recent interventions

WESTERN CAPE - Concerted efforts by police in the Western Cape to rid the streets of illicit firearms and ammunition led to the arrest of suspects in two isolated interventions on Monday 23 January 2023.

Police members of the Provincial Extortion Task Team responded to information and proceeded to an address in NY55 in Gugulethu. Upon searching the premises, they confiscated a large quantity of dagga and a 9mm pistol with ammunition. They arrested and detained a 46 year old man on charges of possession of drugs and possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

In an unrelated incident members attached to Maitland Flying Squad was busy with patrols in Bellville South when they received information about a firearm being stored at a premises in Kasselsvlei Road. Upon entering the premises, they searched the house and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition. They arrested and detained a 38-year-old male on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone and Bellville Magistrate court’s on the mentioned charges.
