(NASDAQ: CLBT) has revealed that hybrid work is creating major data collection headaches for eDiscovery professionals and corporate investigators and is slowing down corporate fraud, IP theft and sexual harassment investigations.

The data reveals that both in-house and agency investigators are facing new challenges caused by the pandemic-induced rise in hybrid and remote working. The top three issues highlighted by respondents are as follows:

  • 70 percent of eDiscovery professionals say accessing data from offsite mobile devices is a major endpoint collection problem
  • 63 percent of eDiscovery professional say accessing data from WhatsApp, WeChat and Telegram is a major endpoint collection problem
  • 56 percent of eDiscovery professionals say collecting data from employees working remotely is a major endpoint collection problem

The data, gathered from 550 eDiscovery professionals and corporate investigators in 45 countries, also illustrates how the abundance of chat and collaboration tools – again accelerated by the pandemic – is spreading digital evidence across a broadening range of platforms.

For this year’s Japan Prize, Prof. Nakazawa and Mr. Hagimoto are being recognized for their distinguished contributions to global long-distance, high-capacity optical fiber network through the development of semiconductor laser pumped optical amplifier, while Prof. Miesenboeck and Prof. Deisseroth are being recognized for their development of methods that use genetically addressable light-sensitive membrane proteins to unravel neural circuit functions.

Employment and Labour holds mall activation campaign in North West, 4 and 18 Feb

Compensation Fund paid over 5 Million in medical invoices as part of the North West Mall activation campaign

Over 5 million Rand has been paid to different service providers who rendered services to the Compensation Fund clients as part of the build-up towards a Mall Activation campaign that was held over the weekend at Brits Mall, in the North West Province.

According to the Director: Compensation Fund in the North West, Dr Mpai Moropa, this campaign is part of the Department’s effort to reach out to clients and service providers as well as increase accessibility and visibility.

“Our services are one of the most sought after and the five days working period is always not enough, therefore, we use campaigns such as these over the weekend to mobilise all our resources under one roof and reach out to as many people and service providers as we possibly can, especially those who are unable to reach us during the normal working hours,” said Dr Moropa.

During the campaign, over four hundred (400) people were assisted with different services such as registration and processing of claims in respect of Occupational Injuries and Diseases (COID) and Unemployment Insurance Fund(UIF); registration of unemployed persons on the Employment System of South Africa (ESSA) database for possible future job placements and registration of labour related complaints for the Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) unit to follow-up.

Other stakeholders that joined in were the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) and Rand Mutual Assurance (RMA) who were also assisting clients with work related complaints and claims.

Addressing gender-based violence at institutions of higher learning

As part of dealing with gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) at institutions of higher learning, government will soon be launching the Transforming MENtalities Initiative, with a focus on mobilising men in the sector to become champions for a world free of gender biases, stereotypes, violence and discrimination.

Higher Education and Training Minister, Dr Blade Nzimande, on Tuesday said the department had noted various incidents of gender-based violence on campuses with many resulting in female students being brutally killed.

Briefing the media on the state of readiness for the post school education and training (PSET) sector for the 2023 academic year on Tuesday, Nzimande said the brutal murder of Nosicelo Mtebeni, Uyinene Mrwetyana, Precious Ramabulana, Jesse Hess, and others had highlighted the vulnerability of female students to gender-based violence.

He said all institutions, working with HIGHER HEALTH, sought to provide safe workplaces and learning spaces for staff and students.

“HIGHER HEALTH is currently implementing programmes towards addressing the challenges of sexual and gender-based violence within the PSET system. These programmes are aligned to the DHET Policy Framework to Address Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the Post-School Education and Training System.

“Through HIGHER HEALTH we have established a multi-sectoral PSET Gender-Based Violence Technical Task Team chaired by Professor LenkaBula, to ensure the effective implementation of the DHET Policy Framework,” Nzimande said.

In addition, he has established a Ministerial Task Team on Sexual Harassment and Gender-Based Violence in the university sector, chaired by Professor Sibongile Muthwa.

The MTT has submitted a report for consideration and the Minister will soon be releasing it to the public.

NSFAS student accommodation

Meanwhile, Nzimande announced that for the 2023 academic year, all institutions will apply their own existing process to allocate accommodation, including universities and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges.

“The new reforms by National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), will not apply in this current registration period. However, it must be noted that NSFAS opened the new accommodation portal on the 9th December 2022 and 44 accreditation agents were appointed to start with the accreditation of accommodation,” Nzimande explained.

He added that since the opening of the portal, 1 120 accommodation providers have applied on the site, with 574 272 beds listed.

Provincial commissioner applauds a multi-disciplinary team for arresting four suspects for corruption and fraud

POTCHEFSTROOM - The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, applauded a multi-disciplinary team comprising of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit, Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit, Commercial Crime Unit, Crime Intelligence and the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) officials for the apprehension of four suspects during a takedown operation in Ventersdorp, Klerksdorp and Jouberton today.

The suspects; aged between 31 and 48 were apprehended as part of the termination of "Project Crocodile Farm", that was initiated in September 2021, after information was received about apparent corrupt activities at the Klerksdorp municipal licensing and testing stations.

The suspects, who include three examiners and the owner of a driving school, allegedly colluded and conducted numerous unlawful drivers and learners’ license transactions in exchange for cash.The arrests came approximately forty days after eight suspects were nabbed in Vryburg and Ganyesa licensing and testing stations for corruption and fraud.

All the suspects are expected to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 25 January 2023, for corruption and fraud related charges.

The Provincial Commissioner thanked the team members and other role players, including prosecution for their cooperation that resulted in the arrests that he said will certainly sound a warning to those who perpetrate crime.
