KWAZULU-NATAL – On Monday 27 February 2023, the Hawks members from Pietermaritzburg Serious Organised Crime Investigation working together with Crime Intelligence and Ladysmith K9 arrested two suspects for kidnaping as well as murder of Sergeant Sandile Mgabhi (39).

It is alleged that on 19 February 2023, Sergeant Mgabhi was off duty sitting with his friends when a quarrel between Mgabhi and his friend, Mduduzi Ndawonde (33) allegedly ensued. Ndawonde and his brother, Muziwezinsizwa Ndawonde (42) forcefully took Sergeant Mgabhi to an unknown place. Mgabhi’s vehicle was found at the service station with blood stains.

Two days later, Sergeant Mgabhi’s lifeless body was found with a stab wound on his chest. A case of murder was reported at Colenso police station. A joint operation was conducted where two suspects were arrested yesterday.

They briefly appeared in the Colenso Magistrate’s Court today and were remanded in custody. The case was postponed to 7 March 2023.
