Provincial Commissioner activates 72-hour activation plan following double murder in Mthatha

MTHATHA – The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in the Eastern Cape, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene ordered the activation of a 72-hour mobilisation plan to trace and apprehend suspects who are responsible for the murder of two people whose bodies were found in an open space between Sidwadwa View and Zimbane Valley in Mthatha last night.

It is alleged that on Monday evening, 19 September 2022 at about 22:30, police were summoned to an open space between Sidwadwa View and Zimbane Valley in Mthatha.  At the scene, police found two unidentified male bodies with bruises. One of the deceased was attired in a black tracksuit top with dark pants.  The second deceased person was only wearing boxer shorts underwear.

Mthatha police detectives are seeking the community’s assistance in tracing either the next of kin of the deceased persons or suspects involved in this serious incident.   The motive behind the murder is currently unknown.

Police are investigating two murder cases, and there are no arrests at this stage.  Investigation continues.
