Police recover stolen firearm and arrest suspect

GQEBERHA – Working together to stop the proliferation of firearms will ensure a safer and crime free society.

On Thursday, 17 November 2022 at about 15:15, the Nelson Mandela Bay District Crime Combatting Unit (CCU) followed up on information received about a stolen firearm at a shop in GG Grounds in Missionvale. As soon as police stopped at the shop, the 29-year-old suspect attempted to run however he was swiftly apprehended. Members also noticed him dropping an object and established that it was a 9mm pistol and 9 live rounds of ammunition. The firearm was reported stolen in Kirkwood in October 2022.

The suspect was arrested on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He is expected to appear in court soon.
