GQEBERHA - High density police operations and patrols undertaken by police stations across the Nelson Mandela Bay metro most certainly yielded the desired results.

This weekend’s operations (15-18 July 2022) resulted in the arrest of 83 suspects for crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of drugs, contravention of the Liquor Act, among others. Two firearms; gas guns, dagga, tik, mandrax, liquor and cocaine were also confiscated.

Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata headed some of the operations in hotspot areas in some of the stations. The operations focused mainly on taverns, drug posts, firearms and wanted suspects. The District Commissioner was accompanied by the Station Commanders in some policing areas.

Maj Gen Ncata has noted with concern the number of under aged persons socialising in local taverns. ‘We will clamp down hard and fast on tavern owners who allow under aged drinking and admission of minors. In Kamesh, a tavern owner was fined R2500-00 for allowing minors into his tavern. Three young girls were removed from the tavern. Taverns will be reported to the Liquor Board and their licenses will be revoked,’ warned Maj Gen Ncata.
