City building a fence at Kuilsriver public transport interchange

Today, 8 September 2022, the City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate will commence with the fencing of the Kuilsriver public transport interchange (PTI) to improve the overall safety at the facility, and to prevent theft and vandalism. The works are scheduled to be completed by 28 September 2022, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather.

'We have seen a significant reduction in vandalism and theft at the other PTIs where we have fended off the area. Hence, we are fencing off more facilities as budget becomes available. The fences also assist with improving the general safety of commuters and operators.

'We have chosen clear-view fencing to ensure that the facility is not hidden behind a solid wall. Visibility is very important in addressing anti-social behaviour and criminality. Most of our facilities have 24-hour security but given the size of some of these PTIs the fences will assist with security especially at night,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
