Alleged PPE tender fraudsters to appear in court

EASTERN CAPE - A 51-year-old company director and his 22-year-old daughter who is also a sole director in her company are appearing this morning in court for charges of fraud, forgery and uttering.

This is subsequent to the arrest of the duo in Port Shepstone and Shelly Beach respectively by the East London based Hawks' Serious Corruption Investigation team in KwaZulu-Natal on 19 July 2022.

It is alleged that in May 2020, the two companies represented by their directors defrauded the Eastern Cape Department of Education by submitting fraudulent lease agreements claiming to have offices in the Eastern Cape province. Due to this misrepresentation, the two companies were awarded the tender which was meant for the Eastern Cape aspiring business people.

The matter was reported to the Hawks and the investigation revealed that the department was defrauded more than R4.3 million.

They will make their first court appearance in the Zwelitsha Magistrates' Court on 20 July 2022.
