Abalone accused sentenced

NORTHERN CAPE – Sibusiso Kenneth Ngwenya (44) and Muziwokuthula Sizwe Dlamini (45) were found guilty and sentenced by the Richmond Magistrates’ Court for illegal possession and transportation of abalone without permit.

The duo was arrested during August 2019 on the N1 freeway near Richmond. The information was recieved about accused transporting abalone from Cape Town to Johannesburg. The members conducted a disruptive operation then a panel van was identified and stopped. During the search, 24 boxes with abalone were confiscated.

Both accused were sentenced to pay a fine of R20 000-00 each or 12 months imprisonment. They were further sentenced to 12 months imprisonment which is wholly suspended for a period of five years on condition that both accused are not convicted on the same offence.
