Two men arrested after four firearms were seized in Umlazi

DURBAN – Police officers deployed in the province to curb lawlessness following the natural disaster in the province are leaving a mark.

Yesterday, the team were conducting crime prevention duties at V Section in Umlazi when they spotted a vehicle with two men. Police officers intercepted the vehicle and conducted a search. Upon searching the suspects, police found four pistols with 109 rounds of ammunition. Police seized four cellphones as well as the vehicle used by the men for further investigation.

Two suspects aged 29 and 30 were placed under arrest for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. Detectives will be profiling the men to determine their involvement in serious and violent crimes committed in the province. Ballistic tests conducted on the recovered firearms will confirm their use in other crimes in the country. The suspects will appear before the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
