Bangkok: The Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 (ISOC Region 4) has officially dismissed claims of any helicopter being involved in shooting incidents during recent unrest in the southern region. The command emphasized that the helicopters were only used for patrol purposes and no weapons were fired from them, describing the reports as efforts to undermine the authorities.

According to Thai News Agency, Lieutenant General Norathip Poynok, who serves as both the Commander of the 4th Army Region and the Director of ISOC Region 4, directly addressed the rumors. He confirmed that the allegations of a helicopter being shot down were false. Lt. Gen. Norathip explained that helicopters and drones were deployed for surveillance along various routes, but no shots were fired at any point during these operations.

Lt. Gen. Norathip further clarified that if any automatic weapons had been used from the helicopter, it would have resulted in significant damage to the alleged targets. He insisted that the reports circulating in the media do not align with the truth, suggesting that they were aimed at discrediting government efforts.

Addressing the broader security situation, Lt. Gen. Norathip noted that the incidents were likely orchestrated to challenge the government's credibility rather than to harm civilians or officials directly. Between the end of July and mid-August, authorities intensified their operations, executing cordon and search activities and putting pressure on insurgent groups across the southern border provinces.

Additionally, the government has launched a "90-Day Anti-Drug Campaign," which has led to several significant seizures. In a recent operation in Yarang district, authorities confiscated over 2,000,000 illegal cigarettes and approximately 18 million baht in cash. This operation is believed to be connected to larger drug trafficking networks, with monthly illegal trade values potentially reaching hundreds of millions of baht.

Lt. Gen. Norathip warned that these illegal activities fund insurgency operations and may provoke retaliatory actions against government officials from parties affected by the crackdown. Nonetheless, the authorities remain committed to enforcing strict measures against smuggling and drug trafficking.

ISOC Region 4 Forward Command has assured that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted into all aspects of the case, promising fairness and continued dedication to their security mission in collaboration with law enforcement agencies.
