WESTERN CAPE - Western Cape Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes detectives made a major breakthrough in the investigation into the gruesome killing of 55-year-old Lydia Njadu from Beaufort West with the arrest of two suspects. The duo is scheduled to appear in the Beaufort West Magistrates’ court on Wednesday, 25 January 2023.
Investigation into the murder indicates, the victim was at her residence at Xaba Street, Kwa Mandlenkosi, Beaufort West on Sunday, 22 January 2023 at about 22:00 when three armed men arrived. A short conversation ensued when the trio randomly shot at the woman fatally wounding her.
Western Cape police management assembled a team of detectives led by a senior police officer who descended on Beaufort West and commenced with the investigation.
The investigation took the team to Kwa Mandlenkosi in Beaufort West on Monday, 23 January 2023 where they arrested the suspects, aged 30 and 35, on a murder charge each. They remain in police custody.
This investigation is at a very early stage and more suspects are expected to be arrested as the police probe unfolds.
