Two males behind bars for illegal firearm in Hanover Park

Two males aged 23 and 30 from Hanover Park found themselves behind bars after they were arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm.

On Monday morning (2022-09-26) at about 07:15, members of Philippi SAPS Crime Prevention Unit were busy with their routine combating and prevention of crime. Whilst patrolling down Athwood Road in Hanover Park, they spotted two males in a crime hotspot where sporadic shootings are continuously occurring. Members stopped and searched the suspects and found a pistol in one’s possession. They were immediately arrested on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The members are also following up on the ownership status of the seized pistol.

Once charged, the two male suspects will make their court appearance in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on charges relating to the possession of a firearm.
