Pretoria:The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning about high temperatures and scattered thunderstorms expected to affect parts of the country this week.
According to South African Government News Agency, a surface trough is anticipated over the western interior of South Africa, while a surface high-pressure system will persist over the eastern regions. Additionally, upper-air disturbances are forecasted, which, combined with the high temperatures, could lead to isolated to scattered thunderstorms in the central and eastern areas.
On Monday, the east and south coasts are expected to experience cloudy and cool conditions. In contrast, other regions will likely see partly cloudy and warm to hot weather, with isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms in the central and eastern parts. The weather on Tuesday is expected to remain cloudy and cool along the east coast and adjacent interior, with widespread rain and showers possible along the Eastern Cape coast and in southern KwaZulu-Natal. Other areas are set to continue with partly cloudy and warm to hot conditions, with thunderstorms over the eastern parts.
The SAWS has advised the public and relevant stakeholders to keep an eye on official forecasts and warnings, which will be updated as more information on potential impacts becomes available. The agency also cautions against using or sharing information from unauthorised or unverified sources. For more updates, individuals can visit the SAWS website or follow their official media channels.
