Six murders recorded over the weekend

WINDHOEK: Six murders were recorded across Namibia over the weekend, The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) has revealed. According to NamPol Spokesperson, Deputy Commisioner Kauna Shikwambi, a 23-year-old man was allegedly fatally stabbed in the early hours of Sunday in Swakopmund's Mondesa residential area. The incident, she said, happened at the intersection of Vrede Rede and Fransiska Van Neel street. 'Three male suspects were arrested after a Namibian male victim, Angolo John Matokolo, aged 23, was stabbed and killed. It was alleged that the suspects, who were charging after him, stabbed the victim, inflicting a deep cut wound that caused his death,' Shikwambi said. The deceased's next of kin have been informed of his death. In Groot-Aub, a 21-year-old man was also allegedly stabbed to death in the early hours of Sunday. The incident happened at a local bar after the deceased and the suspect (aged 17) argued about money. In a separate incident at Khorixas, an 18-year-old man allegedly stabbed a 36-year- old man with a kitchen knife on Friday evening. 'The victim was taken to Khorixas State Hospital, where he was declared dead at the hospital by the doctor on arrival. It is further alleged that the suspect met the deceased in Wendy's street next to Wendy's bar gate and the deceased asked for a cigarette from the friend of the suspect. That's when the suspect interfered and stabbed the victim,' Shikwambi said. Police in the Khomas Region are also investigating a murder charge, following the death of 32-year-old Grand Beukes. It is alleged that he was stabbed on Saturday with a kitchen knife and was declared dead at the Windhoek Central Hospital. The suspect is yet to be arrested. Meanwhile, another man, whose age is unknown, was also allegedly fatally stabbed with a bottle in Windhoek's Wanaheda residential area on Friday. Shikwambi said the incident happened at Matsisti Street, Goreangab location. A 24-year-old suspect was arrested. Police in Ondangwa are also investigating a murder-suicide incident, afte r a 38 year-old man, identified as Elia Hamukwaya allegedly killed his girlfriend, Emilia Nangombe, 34, on Friday. 'He then later hanged himself with a green and white rope in a tree near his family homestead. The kitchen knife which is suspected to have been used to stab the deceased girlfriend was found next to his right hand with blood stains on the blade,' Shikwambia said.
