Security officer arrested for car hijacking

GAUTENG – Katlehong Police were early this morning at around 01:00 on their daily routine patrols when they came across a man requesting assistance from the police.

The man was hijacked of his Audi A4 vehicle next to his house at Ramokonopi East. The victim told the police that he was hijacked by four African males, with one pointing him with a pistol and wearing a reflector jacket.

Police took him to the Police Station in order to open a hijacking case.

While on their way to the Police Station, the victim saw the same gunman wailing on the street.

Police quickly stopped and searched the man. A silver pistol was seized from the alleged 38-year-old suspect, who stays at Buyafuthi hostel.

The hijacked victim positively identified him as the one who hijacked him earlier.

Police went on to discover that the firearm is licensed and registered under the suspect’s name, who is employed as a security officer at a company known to the Police

The suspect was arrested and detained at Katlehong Police Station, for alleged hijacking.

The hijacked vehicle with three suspects is sought by police.

The firearm seized will be taken to ballistic test, for further investigation.

Katlehong acting Station Commander Colonel Piet Erasmus applauded a job well done by Katlehong Police members, with the belief that removing a firearm from wrongful hands will minimize violent crimes in Katlehong. Acting Station Commander is appealing to the community to report more illegal guns and those licensed guns which are on the wrongful hands.

The suspect will appear before the Palm Ridge magistrate court soon, charged with car hijacking.
