SAPS Ivory Park members arrest a shop owner in Clayville following a mob justice related murder

IVORY PARK - On Monday, 27 June 2022, members of SAPS Ivory Park arrested a 40-year-old a shop owner in Clayville Extension 71 near Midrand following a mob justice related incident.

Preliminary investigation led the police to link the shop owner to a mob justice related incident that reportedly took place on Saturday, 25 June 2022. According to an initial report the murder victim and his friend attempted to rob the suspect in his shop. The suspect and his shop assistant locked the victim and his friend inside the shop where after community members allegedly came to the shop and allegedly assaulted the duo.

One of the suspected robbers managed to escape and fled, while the other was left for dead in an open veld. The victim succumbed to his injuries in a hospital yesterday.

The Station Commander of SAPS Ivory Park, Brigadier Mbongeni Ngcobo welcomed the arrest while warning the community to desist from taking the law into their own hands. Brigadier Ngcobo added that community members should continue to work with the police by reporting crime at the nearest police station.
