Public urged to assist the police in the fight against crime

NELSPRUIT - A 29-year-old suspect who reportedly tried to rob a woman of her mobile phone in Middelburg yesterday 22 June 2023 at around 07:00, was apprehended by a Good Samaritan and Security Officers and then handed to the Police.

According to the report, on the said day, a woman was walking with her child to school and when she returned from the school, she reportedly met the suspect who allegedly drew a knife in an attempt to rob her of her cell phone. It is further said that she tried to run away and in the process, she was nearly bumped by a vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle is said to have then stopped and enquired from the woman as to what was unfolding. The woman then related the story whilst the suspect attempted to flee but the driver caught up with him and summoned the security personnel for assistance. The male suspect was then apprehended and a knife was reportedly found in his possession.

The police were alerted about the incident and upon their arrival, he was arrested as well as charged for attempted robbery hence his court appearance.

Adolf Senamela was granted bail of R300 during his appearance in the Middelburg Magistrate's Court today, 23 June 2022. His case is not finalized as yet and the case was only postponed to 02 August 2022 for further investigation.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has acknowledged with much appreciation the action by the concerned citizen who displayed bravery.
