President Ramaphosa Receives Confidential Report on Naval Exercise Investigation

Pretoria:President Cyril Ramaphosa has received a report from a panel investigating the participation of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Chinese-led naval exercise, Exercise MOSI III Will of Peace. The investigation was launched after Iran's involvement in the exercise, held in South African waters, went against the President’s directive.

According to South African Government News Agency, the investigation was initiated in February 2026 due to the failure to adhere to President Ramaphosa's instruction that the Iranian navy should no longer participate in Exercise Will of Peace 2026.

The panel, chaired by Justice Ngoepe with Justice M.M. Leeuw and Rear Admiral (Junior Grade) P.T. Duze as members, was tasked with completing its investigation and submitting a report within one month of its establishment. However, the panel requested an extension to thoroughly complete its work.

President Ramaphosa has expressed his appreciation to the panel members for their dedication and diligence. The Presidency noted that the President will review the report and its recommendations, which remain confidential due to national security considerations.
