President Ramaphosa Appoints New Leadership to Financial and Fiscal Commission

Pretoria: President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed former Finance Minister Nhlanhla Musa Nene as the Chairperson and Malijeng Ngqaleni as the Deputy Chairperson of the Financial and Fiscal Commission (FFC). The appointments are in accordance with section 221 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa and section 8 of the Financial and Fiscal Commission Act.

According to South African Government News Agency, the Commission's main role is to provide recommendations to Parliament, provincial legislatures, local governments, and other state organs on financial and fiscal matters as outlined in the Constitution. Additionally, the President has appointed Bulelwa Dygrecia Nqadolo, Advocate Neo Khethang Tsholanku, Andrew Robert Donaldson, and Astrid Ludin as members of the Commission. These appointments are set for a term of five years, with the Chairperson serving full-time, while the Deputy Chairperson and other members serve part-time.

Nhlanhla Nene, who has a background as a Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister of Finance, also played a role in the Local Organising Committee for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Malijeng Ngqaleni, currently a member of the Commission, has extensive experience in intergovernmental relations at the National Treasury.

Bulelwa Nqadolo has previously held key financial governance roles in the Eastern Cape Provincial Treasury. Advocate Tsholanku brings legal experience from his current position at the South Africa Revenue Service and past roles at Eskom and the South African Broadcasting Corporation.

Andrew Donaldson is a Senior Research Associate at the University of Cape Town and has formerly been the Deputy Director-General of the National Treasury. Astrid Ludin has a rich background in financial oversight and regulatory roles, having served as Deputy Commissioner at the Financial Sector Conduct Authority and other significant positions.

The Presidency emphasized that the new appointees' expertise will significantly benefit the Commission. President Ramaphosa extended his congratulations to the new members and expressed gratitude to Dr. Patience Nombeko Mbava for her service as the former Chairperson.
