Premier Bushy Maape sends condolences to families of North West crash

Premier Maape deeply saddened by the loss of life on the N4 road and sends condolences to the bereaved families

 North West Premier, Kaobitsa Bushy Maape has with great sadness learnt of the tragic and fatal accident that claimed seven (7) lives on the N4 road near Moedeville farming area.

The accident involving a mini-bus carrying twenty-two (22) passengers crashed into a haul truck while both vehicles were travelling towards Swartruggens at around 18:45 on Thursday evening.

Three (3) passengers including the driver were seriously injured whilst twelve (12) other passengers suffered minor injuries and were rushed to a hospital in Rustenburg. Entrapped bodies were removed around 23:30 resulting in a road closure for five hours.

According to one official, the accident scene “was not a pretty sight and certainly not for the faint-hearted.”

Premier Maape expresses his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes those who sustained injuries speedy recovery. “It is really saddening to hear of lives lost on our roads, one life is one too many, worse seven lives”, said Maape.

Premier Maape urges and pleads with road users to exercise caution on the roads and drive with careful consideration for other motorists bearing in mind that it is a rainy season where roads are slippery.

“We must also remember that we are also fast approaching the festive season where the number of road users will increase as people travel to their homes and holiday destinations. I want to humbly ask that we all play a role in ensuring that we arrive alive and that all lives are spared” said Premier Maape
