Pietermaritzburg Voters Urge Focus on Cleanliness and Youth Opportunities Ahead of Elections

Pietermaritzburg:As South Africans participate in the 2026 Local Government Elections today, Pietermaritzburg voter Ntombi Kofane has emphasized the need for elected leaders to prioritize cleaner communities and stricter enforcement of municipal bylaws.

According to South African Government News Agency, Kofane expressed her hope for the future of the country and the importance of electing wise leaders who can restore dignity in communities by ensuring the enforcement of municipal bylaws. She voiced concerns about litter and dirt in Pietermaritzburg, attributing the situation to people abusing their freedoms and rights.

Kofane highlighted the need for leaders who can maintain cleanliness in communities, arguing that neglecting this issue over time could lead to the degradation of cities and neighborhoods. She also pointed out the lack of enforcement of laws prohibiting underage drinking in taverns, stating that many patrons at these venues are young people, and criticized law enforcement agencies for insufficient action against establishments allowing underage drinking.

Another voter, Nondumiso Nzuza, expressed her intention to vote for a party committed to bringing positive change and creating economic opportunities for young people. Nzuza underscored the need for job creation initiatives and empowerment programs for unemployed graduates to improve their prospects.
