Operation Vhuthu Hawe clamps down on drug peddlars in Pixley Ka Seme District

PIXLEY KA SEMA: Police in Phillipstown and Prieska clamped down on drug peddlers and confiscated drugs which includes mandrax tablets, crystal meth and dagga.

Three suspects aged 31, 33 and 34 are expected to appear in the Phillipstown and Prieska Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 20 April 2022, to face charges of dealing in drugs and dagga respectively. The suspects were arrested on Friday, 15 April 2022, during the crime prevention operation Vhuthu Hawe.

The arrest of the suspects was executed subsequent to police in Philipstown and Prieska acted promptly to tip-off regarding drug dealing activities.

Phillipstown police searched a house in Witblock, Phillipsvale and busted suspects aged 31 and 34 with 18 mandrax tablets, 25 sachets of crystal meth. Cash to the value of R 1,314, believed to be the proceeds of drug dealing, was also confiscated.

In a separate incident, Prieska police apprehended a 33-year-old suspect who was spotted carrying black plastic bags stuffed with dagga. The suspect was arrested in informal settlement in Prieska.

In Marydale more than 70 litres of home brewed ginger fermented beer, crates of beer including dagga were confiscated at Aandblom Street Marydale. The suspect was issued with a fine for Contravention of the Northern Cape Liquor Act, for dealing in liquor illegally. During the search at the suspect's house 20 small zipped lock bags of dagga were found in possession of the suspect.

The Pixley Ka Seme District Commander, Brigadier Nomana Adonis praised the members of the community for sharing information which resulted in arrest of the suspects, and applauded members who were involved in the operation.
