Operation Restore arrests suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms and presumed stolen property

Members attached to Operation Restore conducted operations in the Philippi East precinct on Sunday 2022-09-25. During the operations, they spotted a blue motor bicycle drive past Stock Road in Philippi East with a driver and one passenger.

They noticed that the rear lights were defective and tried to stop the driver who refused to slow down but accelerated instead.  A chase ensued, as they approached the onramp R300 traffic lights at Mitchells Plain. They managed to barricade the motorcycle and a pistol fell from the front waist of the rider when he got off from the motorcycle.

Both suspects were searched after the seizure of the firearm that fell and another firearm was found, as well as items presumed to be stolen. They could not produce licenses to possess the firearms. The two males aged 24 and 26 were arrested for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well for the possession of presumable stolen property.

Once charged, they will make their court appearance in the Athlone Magistrate’s court.
