BEIJING: The 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games officially commenced in Beijing, China, showcasing a significant leap in robotic capabilities and innovation. The event, which began on August 22 and will continue until August 26, has drawn considerable attention from the global robotics community.

According to Thai News Agency, the competition has seen participation from 666 development teams across 16 countries, with more than 2,056 robots competing in 51 events. These include 30 general sports events and 21 realistic simulation missions, marking a fourfold increase in robot participation compared to the inaugural event.

The competition serves as a rigorous test of movement, balance, and artificial intelligence in robots. Events range from sports such as 7-on-7 football, 100m and 400m autonomous running, to tasks that require dexterous handling like tightening nuts, opening bottles, and sorting pills. Robots are also evaluated on their ability to perform practical tasks like house cleaning, hotel service, and firefighting.

A remarkable highlight on the first day was the performance of X-Humanoid, a robot from the Beijing Innovation Centre of Humanoid Robotics. It set a new milestone by completing the 100-meter sprint in 9.39 seconds, breaking Usain Bolt's human world record of 9.58 seconds. Furthermore, in the high jump event, the robot achieved a jump of 2.88 meters, surpassing the human world record of 2.45 meters set by Javier São Maior.

This event underscores the rapid advancements in bipedal robotics and artificial intelligence, as these technologies increasingly find applications beyond research labs and into real-world scenarios.
