Narathiwat: Gunmen launched a sweeping attack on 32 locations across 12 districts of Narathiwat province, inflicting bombings and shootings. Authorities are urgently hunting for the perpetrators. Hundreds of assailants coordinated the attack, striking a daycare center and injuring civilians with explosive devices.
According to Thai News Agency, the perpetrators carried out the attacks overnight on August 22, 2026, between 8:20 PM and 9:30 PM. The targets included government buildings, infrastructure, power poles, mobile towers, CCTV cameras, and transportation routes, aiming to create chaos and delay security responses. The incident caused significant damage to government property, injuring two civilians.
In Ra-ngae District, the most severely affected area with eight locations attacked, perpetrators destroyed the Ra-ngae Subdistrict Administrative Organization office, stole a vehicle, and set off multiple explosive devices. Chana District faced arson attacks on government offices and saw the destruction of CCTV cameras.
Si Sakhon District witnessed five incidents, including bombs at sawmills and power poles, damaging local infrastructure. Bajoh District saw the planting of an explosive device near a subdistrict office and arson on the main road.
Cho Airong District experienced arson and sabotage of CCTV camera cables, while Waeng District faced roadblock tactics through burning tires. Suai Ngai Kolok District suffered a coordinated IED attack targeting officials.
Mueang Narathiwat District saw an IED strike injure two civilians. Tak Bai District had bombs planted in quick succession, while Rueso District faced bomb and arson attacks. Yingor District and Suai Padi District also reported arson incidents targeting main roads and administrative offices.
Security forces, including military, police, and local administration, have cordoned off the area. Military dog units and Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams have been deployed to prevent secondary attacks. Investigators are collecting forensic evidence to identify and prosecute the perpetrators.
