Freetown: Green Professionals Network USA, in partnership with Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Social Welfare, executed a significant donation event on March 27, 2026, extending support to individuals recovering from substance abuse, now celebrated as ‘Ambassadors of Positive Change.’ The collaborative effort yielded 105 bags of rice, each weighing 25 kilograms, symbolizing a collective commitment to rehabilitation and social reintegration.
According to Sierra Leone News Agency, the event was held within the Ministry’s Conference Hall, drawing stakeholders, ministry staff, and media representatives. Organizers emphasized meticulous coordination between the international professional network and the national ministry, ensuring the event underscored the power of unified action. Distribution of the 105 bags proceeded with fairness and transparency, guaranteeing that each recipient’s household received adequate sustenance.
In his welcome address, Mr. Ansumana Konneh, Director of Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support Services at the Ministry, acknowledged the presence of Honourable Minister Melrose Karminty, SLPP Deputy Chairman Robert K. Kargbo, and representatives from Green Professionals Network USA. Konneh expressed deep gratitude for the donation, highlighting progress at the rehabilitation centre, where 600 individuals have undergone recovery. He disclosed that 200 residents are scheduled for discharge by the end of April 2026, calling the donation both timely and commendable.
Delivering the keynote address, Honourable Minister Melrose Karminty traced the initiative to a directive from President Julius Maada Bio, whose vision has led to the rehabilitation of hundreds now recognized as Ambassadors of Positive Change. She noted that these young citizens will soon integrate into society, poised to contribute meaningfully to national development. ‘These young people will be future leaders of this nation,’ Minister Karminty affirmed, while reiterating her dedication to sustaining partnerships with organizations such as Green Professionals Network USA.
Offering remarks on behalf of the government and his party, Deputy Chairman Robert K. Kargbo lauded the collective effort to combat what he termed a burgeoning crisis.
