Gender Equality engages stakeholders on police stations’ GBV assessment report, 29 Nov

The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) in the Free State province will hold an engagement session with stakeholders on findings contained in the police stations’ gender-based violence (GBV) assessment report we launched on 12 July 2022. The engagement seeks to address issues in the report that relate to the province.

In 2021, the Commission instituted a process to conduct oversight visits to police stations in various provinces and areas that were classified as GBV hotspots, to assess mechanisms they have put in place to support survivors of GBV. The Commission released a report with findings and recommendations that can be followed to protect victims and intensify the fight against GBV and femicide.

The stakeholder engagement will serve as a feedback session to understand issues highlighted in the report. The feedback session will be held as follows:
Date: 29 November 2022
Venue: Southern Sun Hotel, Bloemfontein
Time: 10:00

Invited stakeholders include:

  • National Prosecuting Authority (the Provincial Directorate of Public Prosecution)
  • South African Police Services
  • Provincial Department of Social Development
  • Provincial Department of Health
  • Provincial Department of Police, Roads and Transport
