Escapee rearrested and sentenced to three years imprisonment

A 29-year-old Karabo Chiloane was sentenced after being rearrested for escaping while attending in the Belfast Magistrate’s Court on the 25 August 2022. He was handed a three years direct imprisonment on 23 September 2022 by the Belfast Magistrate’s Court.

The court heard how Chiloane escaped from lawful custody. He was rearrested after community members spotted him in Acornhoek on 29 August 2022. It also worth noting that Chiloane tried his tricks to escape from lawful custody prior to his sentence on 21 September 2022 however members of the SAPS as well as farmers, Mine Security Personnel stopped him before he could go far. That matter is still pending.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela commended the swift apprehension of the fugitive and also commended community members for their timely intervention.
