Gauteng Employment and Labour inspectors to conduct mega blitz inspections targeting wholesale and retail and hospitality sector
The Department of Employment and Labour through Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) in Gauteng will conduct a week long (26- 30 September 2022) inspections to employers operating in the Wholesale and Retail and Hospitality sectors to check the level of compliance with labour legislation.
The inspections will gauge the employers’ compliance with the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), Sectoral Determination, including the National Minimum Wage (NMW) Act, Unemployment Insurance Act, and the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act.

The Department of Home Affairs and the South African Police Services (SAPS) will also form part of the blitz inspections to ensure that, all institutions like Hotels, Bed and Breakfast facilities and Restaurants are fully inspected.
The Department is committed to improving the two sectors. The inspectorate is testing compliance on the National Minimum Wage Act (NMWA); Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA); Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA); Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA) and Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA).
The Deputy Minister, Boitumelo Moloi during her visit, will be accompanied by Gauteng MEC of Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, the Director General of Department of Employment and Labour Thobile Lamati and Inspector-General Aggy Moiloa.
