Convictions Secured in Murder of IFP Member Mthokozisi Sithole

Escourt:The South African Police Service (SAPS) has expressed approval following the conviction of three men for the murder of Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Branch Executive Committee Secretary, Mthokozisi Sithole.

According to South African Government News Agency, the convictions were handed down on Thursday in the Escourt Regional Court. The convicted individuals, Sthembiso Nkululeko Xulu, Mduduzi Mncube, and Sthabiso Mncube, are awaiting sentencing, which has been scheduled for 28 October 2026.

Sithole was tragically shot and killed outside a tavern in Weenen on 27 January 2024. The Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) in KwaZulu-Natal conducted a thorough investigation, leading to the arrest of four suspects charged with murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The investigation also revealed a connection between the firearm used in Sithole's murder and another murder case involving Thembinkosi Manana. Sthabiso Mncube faced charges in both murder cases, which were prosecuted together.

The court found the three accused guilty of murder and possessing an unlicensed firearm. The police emphasized their commitment to addressing political killings, highlighting their collaboration with the National Prosecuting Authority to reinforce cases in court.
