Richards bay: Home Affairs Deputy Minister Njabulo Nzuza on Thursday handed over a fully equipped computer laboratory to learners at the Umdlamfe Secondary School in Esikhawini. The handover of the high-tech computer lab is part of the government's Back-To-School Programme. According to South African Government News Agency, HONOR South Africa delivered the laptops and partnered with the Department of Home Affairs to establish the laboratory in support of digital literacy and skills development at the school. The laboratory aims to train learners to become active participants in the artificial intelligence sphere while addressing the digital divide in previously disadvantaged communities. The Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of digital learning in the development of learners in the 21st century, highlighting its role in ensuring a digitally equipped South Africa. He explained that the government views the development of digital skills as crucial for advancing the country's digital economy. This comm itment is exemplified by the establishment of the Presidential Commission on the 4IR (PC4IR) by President Cyril Ramaphosa in 2019, which aims to provide leadership for navigating the changes brought by the 4th Industrial Revolution. The Deputy Minister stated that the world is moving towards the 4th Industrial Revolution, which requires technological proficiency to address the challenges of this new era. The new computer laboratory signifies the government's dedication to prioritizing digital learning, positioning South Africa to capture opportunities and manage technological advancements.
