Collaboration leads to arrest of 3 suspects and recovery of copper

HEILBRON – Three suspects were arrested in Heilbron on Monday, 13 June 2022 at about 10:00 for possession of suspected stolen property and tampering with essential infrastructure

Members of Heilbron SAPS in collaboration with Frankfort SAPS and Basopa Security gave chase of a suspicious vehicle on the R34 road from Frankfort towards Heilbron.

The vehicle could not stop when police signalled it to stop. The fleeing driver relented and stopped the vehicle on the side of the road. Four males jumped out of the motor vehicle and ran into the mielie fields. They were chased on foot with assistance of the farmers in Heilbron vicinity. Three (3) suspects were arrested and 39 bundles of copper cable poles were found in the vehicle. The other suspect was not found as he disappeared in the veld.

The trio aged 29, 32 and 50 will be charged for possession of suspected stolen property and tampering with essential infrastructure. They are expected to appear at Frankfort Magistrate’s Court soon.

Fezile Dabi District Commissioner Maj Gen Moses Makubo lauded the members of SAPS, Security Companies and farmers for a successful collaboration that removed these merciless suspects from our communal space. This is an indication that working together with all stakeholders will help to squeeze the space for criminals as we reclaim our streets, roads and communities from criminals,” concluded Maj Gen Makubo.
