Coligny mob justice suspects to re-appear before court

On Friday, 1 April 2022 at about 04:00 a house burglary was reported in Extension 3, Coligny. The suspect allegedly fled from the scene, but he was caught by angry community members, who brutally assaulted him and poured him with boiling water. He was after this ordeal, dropped off at a local clinic, where he was certified dead.

Police managed to identify the suspects and the first suspect was arrested during the same weekend on Sunday, 3 April 2022. Three other suspects were arrested between Monday, 4 April and Tuesday, 5 April 2022. They all appeared before the Coligny Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 6 April 2022, and were remanded in custody.

David Moleko Mosweu (42), Petrus Mpoifi Mosweu (40), Daniel Resegwedi Mosweau (46), Daniel Monnapule Matsela (39) and Alfred Monapule Machabe (32) will re-appear before the same court on Monday, 11 April 2022, on a charge of murder.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, lauded the police for working around the clock to bring the perpetrators to book and reiterated that mob justice will not be tolerated.
