Two suspects due in court for corruption

MPUMALANGA – Two suspects who are brothers, are due to appear before the Middelburg Magistrate Court on Monday, 28 November 2022 for corruption.

It is alleged that on 24 November 2022, a shop owner and his brother approached an inspector from the Department of Labour and Employment to ask him not to issue a compliance order against the shop owner. On the 26 November 2022, the brothers transferred R4500-00 into the bank account of the inspector.

The inspector notified the police about the incident and the two brothers were arrested on the 26 November 2022 by the Hawks Middelburg based Serious Corruption Investigation and charged with corruption hence their appearance in court today.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Mpumalanga, Major General Zodwa Mokoena is delighted about the collaboration between the law enforcement agencies in the Province and applauded the faithful member who acted wisely by reporting the acts of corruption. She further inspires all law enforcement agencies to work with honesty and uproot the element of corruption within the Departments by reporting such incidents. She concluded’’.

Three Directors summoned to appear in the Clanwilliam Magistrate Court on charges of fraud and corruption

WESTERN CAPE – As part of an intense investigation by the Provincial Commercial Crime Investigation Unit, involving the fraudulent procurement of personal protective equipment in the Cederberg Municipality, summonses were executed to the directors of three different companies to make their court appearances in the Clanwilliam Magistrate court on Thursday 24 November 2022.

The first appearance of the accused is the culmination of ongoing investigations to rid the country of individuals who intend to benefit as a result of fraud and corruption. They will join their co-accused who were previously arrested on the same charges.

The accused were released on warning to appear in court on Tuesday 06 December 2022 as one of the accused need to apply for legal representation. As the investigation continues more arrests are imminent. Further details about the case and the unfolding investigations are expected to emerge from court.

Accused appears in court for tampering with essential infrastructure

POTCHEFSTROOM – On Wednesday, 23 November 2022, Felix Ndoti (40) appeared in the Schweizer-Reneke District Court on a charge of tampering with Essential Infrastructure. The case was postponed to Tuesday, 29 November 2022, for a formal bail application. The accused will also appear on Monday, 28 November 2022, in the Coligny Magistrates’ Court on two counts of malicious damage to property and theft of tower batteries.

Ndoti was arrested after he broke and gained entrance into a Vodacom container and stole batteries in September 2018 in Schweizer-Reneke.  Consequent to intensive investigation by the Provincial Organised Crime, the accused was linked with the break-in through fingerprints. He was further linked to the two Coligny incidents wherein he allegedly broke into a container and stole batteries. He was ultimately arrested on Monday, 21 November 2022, in Delareyville.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena lauded the Investigation team for arresting the suspect and pointed out that the arrest will serve as a warning that those who tamper or destroy essential infrastructure, will be dealt with harshly.

Police in Kagisanong request information on the murder of a Grade 11 learner

KAGISANONG – The police are asking for information from the public that can help solve the murder of a 20-year-old male who died after being severely assaulted by a group of unknown young men. It is alleged that on Tuesday 22 November 2022, the Grade 11 learner at Kaelang High School was walking with his friends in the JB Mafora area of Bloemfontein, going to the local store.

They arrived at the store and completed a purchase, then suddenly came a group of young men, all armed with dangerous weapons. The group started to attack them for unknown reasons. They all tried to run for their lives, but unfortunately the learner tripped and fell, and as such, the attackers got to him and stabbed him several times.

He was later rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. No suspects have been arrested yet; the investigation continues.

Anti-Corruption Unit in Limpopo nab six police officers for corruption and defeating the ends of justice

POLOKWANE – The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest of six (06) police officers attached to Tshamutumbu police station in the Vhembe District during a blitz operation conducted today, Friday 25 November 2022.

The “take down operation” was led by the Deputy Provincial  Commissioner responsible for Crime Detection Major General Samuel Manala assisted by the Provincial Head of Organised Crime Brigadier Sakie Brancon and Lieutenant Colonel Norman Malungane as well as other members of the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit.

These arrests are a culmination of intense investigations following receipt of several complaints from the public about police officials who were deployed along the border line being involved in corrupt activities by assisting the syndicates involved in illicit cigarettes smuggling.

The members allegedly created a safe passage for the smugglers to enter the country illegally and in possession of illicit cigarettes in exchange for gratifications and bribes.

These activities reportedly occurred for a prolonged period by the members who enriched themselves at the expense of the state resources.

A lengthy investigation was conducted by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit resulting in a joint operation conducted by the members of the Provincial Detectives, Organised Crime and Crime Intelligence together with the Tactical Response Team Unit (TRT) to apprehend 02 Warrant Officers, 03 Sergeants and a Constable. The members were at work and some at their homes in Musina and Thohoyandou policing precincts respectively.

The suspects aged between 31 and 55 are expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday 28 November 2022.

Tzaneen court handed forty years imprisonment sentence against rapist

POLOKWANE – The Tzaneen Regional Court handed a forty years direct imprisonment sentence against a 26-year-old Donald Ngoveni on Wednesday 23 November 2022.

The Court before passing the sentence, heard how the accused raped a 25-year- old lady in 2016 while he also committed robbery.

Donald was sentenced to twenty years imprisonment for raping a 25-year-old girl in 2016, ten years imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances and ten years imprisonment for another robbery.

Donald pleaded guilty for the three offences whilst his accomplice Lucky Mukansi is still undergoing trial for the same cases.

The duo remained in custody since they were traced and finally arrested on 16 November 2016-11-16 and 17 November 2016 respectively.

Investigating Officer Sergeant Khetate Enock Kgatla successfully opposed bail against Donald and Lucky.

Suspects are due in court for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

WESTERN CAPE – Three suspects between the ages of 23 and 36 are expected to appear in court following their arrest in isolated incidents when they were found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Grassy Park Police members were busy with patrols on Tuesday 22 November 2022 when they noticed two gang members roaming the streets. They immediately stopped and searched the duo and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition found in the possession of one of the males. The 23-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Police members attached to Manenberg Crime Prevention Unit deployed to combat crime and violence in the policing precinct followed up on information on Wednesday 23 November 2022. When they entered a residence in Winterberg Road in Heideveld they conducted an intense search and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition, a consignment of drugs and cash. They arrested a 34-year-old male on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of drugs.

Atlantis Police members conducted stop and search operations in the early hours of Wednesday 23 November 2022. When they entered Neptune Castle in Avondale, Atlantis, at around 00:10, they spotted a man trying to hide himself. The police members stopped the vehicle and searched the unknown man and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition. The 36-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Wynberg, Athlone and Atlantis Magistrate courts on the mentioned charges.
