Media Statement by Cape Town Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis

To all our Hindu residents, may you enjoy a joyous and reflective Diwali while spending time with your loved ones as you move into the new year. 

Diwali is a celebration of light overcoming darkness, and good triumphing over evil, and provides the community with a time to celebrate and look back on the year that has passed.

The City of Cape Town’s vision is A City of Hope for All. We want Cape Town to be living proof that a better life is possible for all.

In my inaugural speech as Mayor of Cape Town last year, I spoke about how we would map out the route for the purpose-driven journey of hope that we are embarking on.

We are now firmly on that journey, and as you celebrate the Hindu New Year, which is also about a celebration of light and hope, I am sure you will be mapping out your own journeys of hope for a better Cape Town for all.
