GQEBERHA – A 27-year-old suspect failed to succeed in his plan to rob a supermarket in Rosedale, Kamesh on Friday morning, after the manager tackled him and effected an arrest.
It is alleged that at about 10:00 the suspect entered the store in Bloekomboom Street and walked up to an employee (42) and stabbed her in the neck. A customer (31) attempted to assist the woman and he, too was stabbed in his chest.
The suspect jumped over the counter and when he failed to open the cash register, the manager tackled him. Other employees also assisted the manager and the suspect was arrested and handed over to police on their arrival.
Both injured persons were taken to hospital for treatment.
The suspect is detained on charges of attempted business robbery and attempted murder. He is expected to appear in the Uitenhage magistrate court on Monday, 7 June 2021.
