POLOKWANE – Pursuant to the serious concerns raised by the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, about the prevalence of horrific incidents of crime that are occurring in the Mopani District requiring maximum public education and awareness, the Provincial Corporate Communication represented by the Commander of the Media Centre Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, today on Friday, 25 June 2021 embarked on an education drive through the use of Radio.

Colonel Ngoepe descended to Sokororo in the Maake Policing area outside Tzaneen in the Mopani District to engage with Communities in the District through the medium of Maruleng FM, a Community Radio Station that has a radius covering large areas of Mopani District.

The interview was conducted from their studio in the area, focusing on the prevention of car hijackings emanating from hitchhiking, contact crimes such as rape and other sexual offences as well as property and trio crimes. Listeners were also afforded an opportunity to call in during the program to raise issues relating to crime.

While concluding the interview, community members were encouraged to actively participate in community based crime prevention structures such as the Community Police Forum (CPF’s), Sector Forums, Street Committees and establishment of neighbourhood watch.

Cellphone numbers of the District Commissioner, Hoedspruit and Maake Station Commanders were also circulated to the listeners.
