As part of ensuring that those who perpetrate crime are brought to book, police in the province arrested 349 suspects for various offences between Friday, 20 and Monday, 23 August 2021.
The arrested suspects included three for murder, 10 for assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, eight for common assault, 2 for robbery, seven for malicious damage to property, one for arson, 223 for liquor and drug related crimes, 5 for being in possession of suspected stolen property, 16 for shoplifting, 17 for theft and 12 for property related crimes.
Actions such as roadblocks, stop and search, patrols, tracing of wanted suspects and enforcement of the Adjusted Level 3 of the Disaster Management Act Regulations were conducted leading to recovery and seizure of the following items: two firearms, three ammunition, two knives as well as drugs consisting of 1.5 gram of Crystal Meth and three Mandrax tablets.
A total of 71 fines were issued 13 for liquor and nine for traffic related offences. Furthermore, 250 litres of liquor and concoctions were seized.
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, congratulated the members for stamping the authority of the State and said that the police working together with other law enforcement agencies will continue to work hard to ensure the safety of all citizens.
