The healthy baby girl was safely transported to Somerset Hospital along with her mother by ambulance, leaving behind a very pleased team of impromptu midwives.

On the same day,  Law Enforcement officers on patrol in the CBD spotted three adult males in a vehicle in Darling Street, who appeared nervous when the officers approached them.  The officers interviewed the men and during a search of the vehicle, they found a plastic carrier bag containing 803 packets of Tik,  389 Mandrax tablets and R830 in cash. The three men were arrested and taken to Cape Town Central police station where they were charged with drug possession.

‘The alertness and swift action by our officers ensured that criminals are brought to book and the confiscation of drugs will stop innocent lives being further destroyed. The severe impact that these illegal substances have on families and communities should not be underestimated. These criminals who trade in drugs don’t have any respect for our communities and the sale of drugs often lead to serious crimes being committed,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

On Friday, 4 June 2021, while on patrol in  Isabel Street, Kalkfontein, Kuils River, officers spotted a suspect throwing a plastic bag on the roof of one of the houses after he noticed the officers. The officers apprehended the suspect and proceeded to retrieve the bag from the roof, which contained ten packets of Tik. The suspect was duly informed that he is under arrest for possession of drugs. While the suspect resisted arrest, the community interfered and threw the officers and the patrol vehicles with stones in an attempt to free the suspect, damaging one of the vehicles. The officers managed to arrest and detain the 21-year-old suspect at Kuilsriver SAPS  on charges of illegal possession of drugs, resisting arrest and riotous behaviour.

‘We would once again request communities to work with our enforcement officers and to allow them to do their work. The City of Cape Town cannot allow community members to attack our officers. It is often the very same community members who request assistance when in need, only to later  support and participate in attacks on officers. We will not allow obstruction when we are asked to serve and protect our communities and our officers should be allowed to remove criminals from communities so that they can have their day in court,’ said Alderman JP Smith.
