EASTERN CAPE – Anti-Gang Unit members defied threats and abuse by alleged gang members after they recovered a firearm and confiscated a Mercedes Benz this morning, 06 July 2021, in Voisen Road in Helenvale.
It is alleged that at about 11:00, members acted on information received about firearms in a vehicle in Voisen Road. The vehicle, a Mercedes Benz was found stationary with no occupants inside however alleged gang members were found standing close to the vehicle. A pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition was found lying on the front passenger seat.
As police attempted to remove the vehicle, gang members tried to prevent them from removing it by throwing objects at them. Public Order Policing provided backup and the vehicle was safely impounded.
An enquiry docket was opened for further investigation. Ownership of the firearm and the vehicle is yet to be established.
