JOE GQABI DISTRICT – Members of the South African Police during Operation Vuthu Hawe yielded positive results as drugs and a firearm were seized.

In the first incident yesterday, 29 July 2021, at about 11:00, Mt Fletcher Vispol members were performing adjusted level 3 for Disaster Management Act Regulations compliance monitoring patrols when they received information about an elderly man reportedly harassing and assaulting his siblings at his homestead and is in possession of a firearm.

Police swiftly responded and proceeded to the identified homestead where a silver revolver with the serial number erased without ammunition was found between rocks outside in the premises. The firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing.

A 73-year-old suspect was arrested and detained he will appear today before the Mt Fletcher District Court.

In a second unrelated incident, also in Maclear, on Thursday, 29 July 2021, two suspects aged between 38 and 40 were arrested for dealing in drugs in separate incidents.

On Thursday, 29 July 2021, members of Elliot K9 Unit and Crime Intelligence Unit performing adjusted level 3 for Disaster Management Act Regulations compliance monitoring patrols at Maclear location when they received information.

The members then acted swiftly upon a community tip-off alleging a male suspect is in possession of illicit drugs.

The information was operationalized and the members proceed to the location where the 40-year-old suspect was arrested for dealing in drugs and he was arrested. Three quarter mandrax tablets with an undisclosed amount of cash were seized.

While on duty, members again acted swiftly on intelligence about a suspect dealing with drugs. A 38-year-old suspect was arrested after he was found to be in possession of one full box of mandrax tablets. Both suspects is expected to appear before Maclear District Court today, 30 July 2021.

The Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Rudolph Adolph commended the successes achieved by the SAPS.
