UPINGTON – A 36-year-old man was sentenced on Thursday, 29 July 2021 in the Upington Regional Court for the rape of a 16-year-old female.
On 03 July 2020, at about 8pm, the 16-year-old victim was at her place of residence in Askam and fell asleep. Victor Swartz, the accused, entered the house and raped the victim. Swartz was caught in the act by the victim’s sister. A rape case was opened the following day and the accused was arrested.
Swartz was denied bail and remained in custody up until his sentencing.
He was found guilty and sentenced to 8 years imprisonment of which 1 year is suspended.
The Provincial Head for Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, Brig Nicky Mills commended Detective Sergeant Thabisho Mashilishili of Upington FCS Unit for his sterling investigation.
