Keetmanshoop, Namibia – In a closely contested match, the Karasburg-based Young Brazilians (YB) secured a 4-3 victory over Eeshoke Chula Chula FC on Saturday. This exciting game, part of the Debmarine Namibia Premiership 2023/2024 season, was played at Keetmanshoop’s Westdene Stadium and drew a sizable crowd from various regions including Oranjemund, Lüderitz, Aussenkehr, Karasburg, and Ariamsvlei.

According to Namibian Press Agency (NAMPA), the match was attended by prominent local leaders, including ||Kharas Governor Aletha Frederick, ||Kharas Regional Council Chairperson Joseph Isaaks, and Keetmanshoop Mayor McDonald Hanse, among others. The presence of these dignitaries underscored the significance of the event in the local sports calendar.

The Young Brazilians showcased their skill early in the game with Christinus Windstaan scoring the first goal within the initial 10 minutes. By halftime, YB had extended their lead to 3-0, thanks to additional goals from Quinton van Staden and Reginald Vries. The team demonstrated a strong offensive front in the first half of the match.

In contrast, the second half saw a vigorous comeback from Chula Chula, with Kennedy Aib and Joao Albino scoring the team’s first and second goals shortly after the break. Despite this resurgence, YB managed to maintain their lead, with Piet Phillips scoring their fourth goal with 20 minutes remaining in the match. Albino scored Chula Chula’s third and final goal, bringing the game to a thrilling conclusion.

In a post-match interview, YB’s newly appointed coach Galiel Pelwan, originally from Northern Cape in South Africa, expressed his gratitude towards his team. Pelwan highlighted the victory as a significant motivator, especially given the team’s previous performance challenges. He thanked the fans and regional leadership for their support.

Chula Chula’s coach John Sikerete reflected on the match with a critical eye, acknowledging the team’s early struggles but also their strong second-half performance. Sikerete expressed disappointment over the first half but refrained from placing blame, focusing instead on the team’s overall efforts.

Looking ahead, the Young Brazilians are set to play against Mighty Gunners on Sunday at the same venue, while Chula Chula will face off against the Khomas Namibian Police Force.
