Women’s month operation yields positive results

Members from Ventersburg Visible Policing support, Ventersburg Rural Safety Unit, Provincial Traffic and Community Policing Forum conducted a vehicle checkpoint operation in commemoration of Women’s Month on the R70 road Virgnia T-junction on Thursday, 15 August 2024.

During the operation, Warrant Officer Wessels Bernado and Sergeant Donald Seitshiro spotted a Silver Ford Ranger that made a U-turn in attempt to avoid going through the vehicle checkpoint.

Both members immediately gave chase of the suspected vehicle. While the vehicle drove through town and took an On-ramp to N1 North towards Kroonstad before taking an off-ramp towards Wonderkop farm.

The suspects then stopped their vehicle on a gravel road curve and attempted to off-load Copper cable from their vehicle. When the members of the SAPS closed in on them they ran into the bushes.

Warrant Officer Bernado managed to arrest one suspect while Sergeant Seitshiro chased the remaining suspects.

After an intensive search, Sergeant Seitshiro was able to arrest the second suspect. The two suspects, aged between 29 and 45, were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and will appear in the Ventersburg Magistrate’s Court, on Monday, 19 August 2024.

Members of the SAPS recovered the following exhibits: Copper Cable weighing 72kg with a value of R11520.00, cellphones and clothes.

During the vehicle checkpoint, 119 vehicles and 111 passengers were searched and pamphlets with information on gender-based violence, domestic violence, sexual offences and substance abuse were issued.
