NORTHERN CAPE – Kuruman Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, embraced August Month, to advance Government’s call to celebrate the lives of women who led from the front advocating women’s rights.

This year women’s month has been dedicated to Charlotte Maxeke, under the theme “Generational Equality: Realising Women’s Rights for Equal Future”.

On Friday, 06 August 2021 Captain Karen Nel, the Commander of the Kuruman Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, collectively with her members under her command, reached out to women employees at the Oasis Casino in Kuruman, by raising awareness through an educational session regarding crimes against women.

When she addressed women at Oasis she encouraged them to break the silence against women abuse. “Crime such as rape, abuse and child maintenance women must continue to report such distresses to the police because the police has the mandate to serve and protect the citizens of this country, No woman should experience any form of abuse” she said.

Male employees at Oasis Casino, were not left out they also formed part of the awareness campaign and were encouraged to protect women and not to abuse them. Informational pamphlets were distributed and women were also briefed about procedure to report any form of women abuse.

The Marketing manager of the Oasis Casino, Ms Anelisa Sigcu together with her staff were elated and applauded the South African Police Service for bringing Women’s Month Campaign to her staff.
