a multi-disciplinary female dominated Operation Basadi was executed in the greater Kuruman area.
Female members from the SAPS, Correctional Services, Home Affairs (Immigration), and Provincial Traffic Department embarked on the operation in recognition of Women’s Month.
Disruptive actions were led by senior female police officers under the leadership of Major General Nomana Mtukushe, the District Commissioner of the Pixley Ka Seme District, Major General Monica Sebili, the District Commissioner of the ZF Mgcawu District and Brigadier Irene Kopeledi, the Provincial Head of Pro-Active Policing.
The ladies were supported by their male counterparts, namely the Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Luntu Ngubelanga, Major General Jonny Besnaar, the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Commissioner and Brigadier Schalk Andrews, the Namakwa District Commissioner. Several female Provincial Heads and Station Commanders from the John Taolo Gaetsewe District participated in the operation.
A roadblock was conducted
on the N14, where 92 vehicles and 122 persons were stopped and searched. Traffic fines to the value of R9 000-00 for various violations were issued, and two replica firearms were confiscated and an inquiry registered.
Information was operationalised in the Mapoteng Village in Mothibistad, resulting in the arrest of two suspects, aged 19 years old after dagga with an estimated street value of R60 707-00 and cash believed to be the proceeds of crime was found in their possession.
High visibility patrols were executed in the Kuruman CBD, resulting in the detention of twenty-two (22) undocumented foreign nationals.
Compliance inspections were conducted at formal and informal businesses, second hand goods stores and liquor outlets, resulting in the confiscation of expired goods and medicines.
Stop and search actions were executed during which promotional material providing safety hints were distributed.
Grocery parcels were distributed by the ladies to several identified families in need in the area in Seodin
and Mapoteng in the Mothibistad policing precinct.
Women’s Month activities will continue with a Provincial Community Imbizo on Wednesday, 28 August 2024 at the Kakung Community Hall in Mothibistad and a Women in Law Enforcement Parade at the Mothibistad Stadium and GBVF Engagement on Thursday, 29 August 2024.
