Women in blue continue to play a significant role in the fight against crime

POLOKWANE – The South African Police Service is continuously striving to play a significant role in community development and upliftment with a mission to combat crime across the Provinces as mandated by the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

Evidently, two women in the Mopani District, Constable Maite Olga Nkwana and Constable Khomotso Roseline Hlokwe, respectively, have proven themselves on their commitment and indefatigable efforts to serve and protect the inhabitants of this province.

Constable Nkwana is a 31-year-old mother of two children and currently stationed at Bellevue satellite Police station under Bolobedu policing area. She was born and raised in Shawela village outside Tzaneen and started her academic journey at Nokane Primary school and subsequently, matriculated at Realidisha High school.

Constable Nkwana joined the SAPS in 2016 while working in Alexandra Township in the Gauteng Province which turned out to be a positive decision to serve her country.

She started her career at Bolobedu Police Station working at the Community Service Centre (CSC) and later transferred to Bellevue satellite police station. She passionately make extra efforts beyond her call of duty to assist the complainants at all costs, daily.

She advocates equality in the service as during those olden days, there was a notion that policing is for males and women are unable to perform the same duties like their counterparts, which is untrue.

Constable Nkwana would like to encourage other female colleagues to support each other and leave their personal differences aside in order to succeed in the male dominated environment.

“Laziness and comfort must be avoided as they may become obstacles to the women in blue who are environmentally bounded and do not want to experiment at other fields in order to grow and enhance their career opportunities in the Organization”, she said.

The monumental highlight of her career in the SAPS was the reading of The SAPS Code of Conduct during the launch of the 2021 Safer Festive season operations by the National Commissioner of the South African Police Service General Kehla Sitole that was hosted in Giyani stadium in the Mopani District, last month.

Bolobedu SAPS have also acquired an exceptional female employee known as Constable Khomotso Roseline Hlokwe, a 31-year-old mother of three children from Matshwi village in the Bolobedu policing area.

She studied at Mathe Primary school and completed her matric at Modubatse High school before she joined the Police in 2017. After completion of her training at the SAPS Pretoria West College in the Gauteng Province, she was detailed to serve in the crime prevention unit at Tzaneen Police station under Mopani District.

She was later transferred to Bolobedu Police Station in 2019 and worked at the Community Service Centre (CSC) before being appointed as the Station Social Crime Prevention Coordinator and the Communication Officer.

“I always strive to prove my male counterparts wrong while performing my daily duties and it motivate me to do everything to the best of my ability and they always acknowledge that desire and positive attitude in me. Police work is a 24-hours service and have no constraints irrespective of where you are deployed. When you are required to serve and protect the citizens of this country, you always respond positively”, she concluded.
