An intelligence driven operation led to the arrest of a 48-year-old woman who is scheduled to appear in the Ladismith Magistrates’ court on Friday, 01 October 2021 after drugs with an estimated street value of R75 000 was confiscated in Ladismith.
On Wednesday, 29 September 2021 at about 16:30 members attached to the Ladismith Crime Prevention Unit and Oudtshoorn Crime Intelligence operationalized information received about illicit drug activity when they stopped a minibus taxi on the R62 near the entrance to Ladismith. Upon searching the vehicle the members found four 2,5 kilogram packets of white bread flour amongst the luggage of a passenger on board. A further search of these packets led to the discovery of 980 Mandrax tablets and 611 bankies of Tik which was concealed in these packets. The police confiscated the drugs and arrested the suspect on a charge of dealing in drugs.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was en-route from the Cape Metropole and the drugs was destined for distribution in the Klein Karoo.
In the meantime, on the same day at about 16:30 Kwanonqaba police swiftly responded on a hint about a vehicle with a consignment of drugs on board which was en-route from George when they stopped the vehicle on the N2 highway at Mossel Bay. The members proceeded with a search of the vehicle when they found 720 pieces of heroin estimated at R43 000 stashed in a compartment near the engine. Members confiscated the drugs and subsequently arrested the 31-year-old man.
He is expected to appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrates’ court tomorrow, Friday, 01 October 2021 on a charge of dealing in drugs.
Both suspects remains in custody.
Western Cape police management commended the members for their commitment to the policing priorities to rid communities of drugs.
