Woman dies in accident outside Okahandja

A 45-year-old woman died instantly after the pickup truck she was traveling in rolled several times on the Okahandja-Gross Barmen road Monday night.

According to a media statement issued by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) on Tuesday, the woman was identified by relatives as Ndilimeke Hautoni.

It is alleged that Hautoni died after she was ejected from the vehicle, after its 44-year-old male driver lost control over it on a curve.

'The driver allegedly lost control over the vehicle on a curve, which then left the road to the right side of the road. It overturned and rolled several times before landing on its roof inside a farm camp,' said the NamPol statement.

The accident occurred approximately eight kilometres outside Okahandja towards the Gross Barmen Resort at about 20h00 on Monday.

Four occupants - two men (including the driver) and two women (including the deceased) - were in the pickup at the time of accident.

The woman died on the spot, while the other three occupants sustained serious injuries and were transported to various hospitals in Okahandja and Windhoek for treatment.

A culpable homicide docket was opened at Okahandja against the driver.

Police investigations continue.
